Signs to Pay Attention To

Signs It May Be Time to Seek Help.

There is no single threshold that means it is time to reach out. Often it is less about how often something happens and more about the effect it is having on your life and the people you love.

Feeling unable to stop or cut back, even when you want to

Hiding your behavior, or a growing pattern of secrecy and lying

Continuing despite consequences at home, at work, or in your health

Noticing it takes more over time to feel the same effect

Using it to escape stress, loneliness, boredom, or difficult emotions

Strain, distance, or broken trust in a marriage or relationship

Spending significant time thinking about it, or losing time to it

Feeling shame, guilt, or a sense of being out of control afterward

Recognizing yourself in any of these is not a verdict on your character. It is simply information, and it is enough of a reason to talk with someone.

How Counseling Helps

Support for You, and for Your Relationship.

Counseling can take different shapes depending on where you are. Some people come on their own. Some come as a couple. Often, both kinds of work happen alongside each other.

Individual Counseling

A private space to be honest about what is really going on, without fear of being judged or shamed. Together, we slow the pattern down and look at what is driving it, rather than only what it looks like from the outside.

  • Understanding the triggers, emotions, and beliefs underneath the behavior
  • Addressing secrecy and shame in a way that supports honesty
  • Developing practical strategies for stress, loneliness, and difficult moments
  • Working toward accountability that feels steady rather than punishing
  • Building a life with more connection, meaning, and room to breathe

Couples Counseling & Rebuilding Trust

When a partner has been hurt, the relationship itself needs care. Couples counseling gives both people room to speak honestly and be heard, and to work through what happened without the conversation collapsing into blame.

  • Creating space for the hurt partner to be heard and understood
  • Helping both partners talk about a painful subject without shutting down
  • Understanding how secrecy and broken trust affect a relationship
  • Setting honest expectations about transparency and accountability
  • Rebuilding communication, safety, and connection over time

Every relationship is different, and no one is promised a particular outcome. What we can offer is an honest, caring process, and support for whatever you decide the path forward should be.

What to Expect

A Calm, Respectful Place to Start.

The first appointment is a conversation, not an interrogation. We will ask what brought you in, what you are hoping will be different, and what has and has not helped so far. You are in control of how much you share and how quickly.

From there, we set goals that matter to you and work at a pace that feels sustainable. There is no lecture, no moralizing, and no requirement to have everything figured out before you begin.

You can start on your own, as a couple, or talk with us first about which setting makes the most sense for your situation.

Your privacy matters

  • Sessions are confidential, with the usual legal and ethical limits that apply to all licensed counseling.
  • Counseling is supportive, never shame-based or condemning.
  • You can come on your own or with your partner, and we can help you think through what is best.
  • Virtual sessions are available for clients across Texas.
  • We will not promise specific outcomes. We will bring honesty, compassion, and a steady commitment to your process.

If You Are in Crisis

If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room right away. You do not have to wait for an appointment.

For immediate, confidential support, the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988. You are not alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to share every detail of what has happened?

No. You decide what you are ready to talk about and when. Counseling works best with honesty, but that does not mean you have to say everything in the first session, or in any session before you are ready.

Can my partner come with me?

Yes. Some people begin individually and later bring their partner in, and some start together. We can help you think through which setting would be most useful for your situation.

Is this only for men?

No. We work with adults of any gender, and with couples. If you are unsure whether counseling fits what you are facing, a first conversation is a reasonable place to find out.

Will what we talk about stay private?

Yes. Sessions are confidential, with the usual legal and ethical limits that apply to all licensed counseling. We can go over those limits with you clearly at the start.
