Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to Common Questions.
Starting counseling raises questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most in our inbox.
Getting Started
How do I know if counseling is right for me?
If you are facing something that feels too heavy to carry on your own, or you simply want support working through a change, counseling can help. You do not need to be in a crisis to benefit, and a first session is a low-pressure way to find out.
How do I choose a counselor?
We encourage you to look at each counselor's focus and approach. The relationship between you and your counselor matters a great deal. We are happy to help you find the right fit.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your first session is a chance to share what brought you in and what you hope to change. We also use the time to answer your questions and make sure you feel comfortable. There is no pressure to cover everything at once.
How do I get started?
The easiest first step is to request an appointment. You can do so through the schedule page, and we will help connect you with an appropriate counselor.

Practical Questions

How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes, scheduled at a pace that fits your needs. We can discuss what works best for you.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Counseling is confidential, with the usual legal and ethical limits that apply to all licensed counseling. We are transparent about how confidentiality works.
