Affair Recovery Counseling in San Antonio
Help for couples and individuals healing after infidelity — emotional or physical affairs — in person at our Stone Oak office or virtually across Texas.
What to Expect
Finding Your Way Through the Aftermath.
Discovering an affair or disclosing one is a crisis, and the weeks that follow are often the hardest. Counseling gives you a structured place to steady yourselves and work through what comes next, rather than trying to do it alone in the middle of the storm.
The crisis stage
In the beginning, emotions run high and it can be hard to think clearly. We slow things down, help you both feel steadier, and set some ground rules so the conversations do not spiral. Nothing lasting gets decided in this stage.
Understanding why it happened
Rebuilding begins with honesty. That means looking at what was happening in the relationship and in each person's life that made an affair possible, without using that understanding as an excuse for it.
Rebuilding trust
Trust is not restored by a promise. It is rebuilt through consistent, verifiable behavior over time, along with a shared understanding of what transparency looks like for the two of you.
Deciding the path forward
At some point, couples have to decide whether they are working toward repairing the relationship or toward separating well. Counseling supports either choice, and helps you make it deliberately rather than in the middle of the crisis.
Who It Is For
Support for Both Sides of the Story.
An affair affects two people differently, and each needs something different from counseling. We work with all three configurations below.
The betrayed partner
You may be dealing with shock, grief, anger, and a hundred questions that will not let you rest. Counseling gives you a place to be heard and to steady yourself, and to work through what you need in order to feel safe again — or to decide that you cannot.
The partner who strayed
You may be carrying guilt and shame that make it hard to be honest. Counseling offers a place to take responsibility without being destroyed by it, to understand what led you there, and to do the work of becoming someone who does not repeat it.
Couples
Together, you need a space where the conversation can stay productive instead of collapsing into blame or withdrawal. Couples work helps you talk honestly about what happened, what you each want, and whether and how you move forward together.
Our Approach
Structured Work, Honest Conversation.
Our couples work is informed by the Gottman method — an approach built on decades of research into how relationships succeed and how they break down. In practice, that means helping you understand the patterns underneath your conflict, rebuild the way you talk to each other, and work on the specific things that are keeping you stuck.
We also work individually with each partner where that is useful, because an affair cannot be repaired by couples sessions alone.
For couples who want it, Christian counseling is available on request. We are happy to talk through what that looks like for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a marriage survive an affair?
Yes, many do. Rebuilding after infidelity is difficult and it takes real work from both people, but an affair does not have to mean the end of a marriage. Some couples come through this with a stronger, more honest relationship than they had before. Others ultimately decide to separate, and that can also be a healthy outcome. Counseling is about helping you make a clear-eyed decision rather than one made in the middle of the crisis.
How long does affair recovery take?
It varies, and it is usually measured in months rather than weeks. The early crisis stage tends to settle over the first several sessions. Rebuilding trust and understanding what happened is a longer process, and the pace depends on the couple, the history, and what each person is able to bring to the work. We will check in with you along the way rather than hold you to a fixed timeline.
Should we come together or separately?
Both can be useful, and many couples do some of each. The betrayed partner often needs individual space to be heard and to steady themselves. The partner who strayed often needs individual work on what led to the affair. Couples sessions then give you a place to talk together with support. We can help you figure out the right mix for your situation.
What if my spouse won't come?
You are still welcome to come on your own. Many people begin that way, either because their partner is not ready or because they need a space of their own first. Individual counseling can help you process what happened, decide what you want, and figure out how to approach your partner when the time feels right.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. We see clients in person at our Stone Oak office in San Antonio and offer virtual sessions across Texas. Some couples use a mix of both. We can talk through what works best for your situation.
